Swirling Leaves Rows Tutorial

If you have followed me for any length of time, you probably realize by now that I love and keep going back to the Swirling Leaves stitch. I love that stitch and am always looking for new ways to use it and new items to make with it. I never get tired of it. However, it is a stitch that pictures really do help when making the something from it for the first time. So I decided to make a photo tutorial for working Swirling Leaves rows. If you want to see how to work the stitch in the round, you can go HERE.

There are some new patterns coming soon using this stitch in rows and I already have a few others (blanket, vest, coffee cozy, bonnet, skinny scarf). I will be updating some of the older ones soon as I found “better” ways to work it from when I first started designing with Swirling Leaves. The patterns in the round will probably also be updated soon as well.

Tips & Tricks 2: Crochet Graphs in Excel

At one point, I used Google Drawings for my crochet graphs that I create. I just recently switched over and tried one in Excel. I much prefer Excel for the graphs now! So, on the recommendation of another designer friend, Krista of Evergreen Shore, I decided to do a tutorial on how to create crochet graphs in Excel.

Swirling Leaves Stitch Tutorial

I have several patterns that use the Swirling Leaves stitch. It is one that I keep going back to because I thoroughly enjoy it! Sometimes when first doing the stitch, I have had people get confused so I decided to give a stitch tutorial! I don’t yet have the capability to do a video tutorial but am always willing to answer questions so if the photos don’t work for you, let me know and I will try to help in whatever way I can! So I am giving you a Swirling Leaves stitch tutorial.

I love browsing for different stitches or coming up with my own combinations and have so much fun creating designs that I hope y’all enjoy as much as I enjoy creating them. I will often find a stitch and then tweak it a bit to get the look exactly how I want it which is what I did with the stitch that I am using in my Twisted Treasures line of patterns. The boot cuffs are available as my contribution to Cre8tion Crochet but I decided to create a stitch tutorial post for the 3 rows that have places that could be tricky. For this design I used Knit Picks Mighty Stitch which is one of their new yarns. I will tell you more about that later!

Tips & Tricks 1: Yardage

This post contains affiliate links. If you click through and purchase on any of those links, I get a small percentage from the purchase.

Have you ever looked at a pattern, wanted to work it in a different yarn from the one suggested and then see that the yarn requirements are listed as number of skeins or the weight of a particular yarn? How do you make sure that you have enough of the yarn you want to use? I’m going to answer those questions in this first of my tips & tricks posts.

Are you a new designer trying to figure out how many yards of yarn you used in a pattern so you can put your most accurate information into your pattern?

How do you determine the yardage? What can you do to figure that out? Well, I’m going to give you the method, but I am also going to provide you with some charts to help you out! I have Red Heart Super Saver in this post, but the others will be in upcoming posts and I will link them here.
