Pattern Testing: How I Do It

I have had so many people ask me about my process that I use with pattern testing that I decided to do a post on how I do it! It took me a while to get my process down, and I still tweak it from time to time as things change or something doesn’t work for me.

I am often mobile and had to find a system that works well for me even when I am on the go; although I am planning on that changing this month! YAY!

Tester Call

There are times when I need to find new testers. I will usually start by asking for recommendations from designer friends and those already in my testing group before I put a general call on my business page. I do have a tester application permanently on my page. I use Google Forms for my application along with some of the other information that I collect from testers (but I will get to that later). If you would like to see how I have the form set for the application, just click on the graphic above.

Meet My Testers: Becky

I haven’t highlighted one of my testers in a while. So here we go! This is Becky from Sisters Craft Corner. She does lovely work, and I have so enjoyed getting to know her as a tester.

How did you learn to crochet?

My little sister came over and taught me the basic stitches and I made a dishcloth and then a basic beanie almost 4 years ago. From there I watched YouTube videos, looked at tutorials, tried out new patterns, asked questions in groups, and absorbed information everywhere that I could.

What do you like to crochet the most?

I love taking a skein of yarn and watching it come to life as it takes shape into something.

The least?

I’m not so fond of sewing lots of little pieces together.

What inspires you in crafting?

I have always had a love for crafting. My mom made gorgeous handmade quilts, sewed clothes, etc and passed her love of crafting on to her kids. I draw inspiration from everywhere I go.

Are there other crafts you enjoy besides crochet?

I also enjoy scrapbooking, cross-stitch, and some home decor crafts.

Is there anything that you haven’t tried in crochet that you want to learn?

I haven’t done Tunisian crochet yet, and I am very excited to learn it.

What do you like about pattern testing?

I love trying new patterns that I may not have picked up on my own, as well as learning new stitches, techniques and ideas!

Who are your favorite designers?

Some of my favorite designers are Leah (of course), Briana K, Family Traditions Crafts, Two Brothers Blankets, One and Two Company, A Crocheted Simplicity, and there is such a big list….I could go on for days!

Well, that’s it from Becky! If you want to connect with her you can find her on Facebook, Etsy and Instagram. And here is some of her GORGEOUS work for your viewing pleasure.

If you are interested in becoming a tester for me, you can go HERE and fill out my tester application and shoot me a note letting me know you did!

Meet My Testers: Jess of DiPaul’s Designs

It’s my privilege to once again introduce y’all to one of my testers: Jess of DiPaul’s Designs! I “met” Jess on my business page when she applied to be a tester for me. A mutual love of The Doctor drew us together and quickly made us friends! I feel like I know her even though we have never met “in real life”.

Meet My Testers: Pamela Emerson – Pammy’s Bare Beanie

****Any links to products in this post are affiliate links. I get a little bit when someone clicks through and orders. This helps me continue to bring new patterns to you.****

I often say (and truly mean it) that I would not be able to do what I do without my testers. So as a small thank you to them, I feature them here!

This time is the wonderful Pamela of Pammy’s Bare Beanie. She is an amazing lady and does so much for the crafting community. She shares posts, cheers designers and other crafters on and is one of the sweetest people I have met on this crochet journey of mine!

I asked her a few questions and here are her answers!

Meet My Testers: Sweet Potato Crochet Creations

Hello, everyone! I’m so happy to introduce myself to you all.

My name is Carol Rupprecht, and I’m a stay at home mommy to 2 crazy boys: my toddler who is one
(crawling since 5 months, walking since 9. Gosh,he’s a handful.), and my husband who is a child at heart. I’ve only been crocheting for a little less than 2 years and I can’t believe how far I’ve come since I started.

Meet My Testers: Hollie Bobo

As I said earlier this week, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without my marvelous testers. They help me to make sure that my patterns are what they should be before I release them for the public to use. The first one that I am going to highlight is the wonderful Hollie! She is my right hand with my pattern test lab. I love working with her, and we recently found out that we were born only 3 days apart! So here is Hollie and a little bit about her in her own words:

Meet My Testers

I am going to start doing a feature titled “Meet My Testers”.

These are going to be profiles of the amazing ladies that test my patterns and make sure they are as good as we can make them before I release them to the public. They make sure that my directions make sense, that I haven’t missed any typos or errors and that my patterns work out like my head sees them (because sometimes it doesn’t work that way!) and are generally my cheerleaders!

I couldn’t do what I do without them and so wanted to acknowledge them and what they do in a special way. They are amazing, generous and talented people who I am so blessed to have in my life.

The first profile will be on Friday!
